Last Goodbye by Zoë Greene

Zoë Greene

I left my water bottle in your car

Unimportant, slightly inconvenient, nothing a few days time couldn't fix

We went to a concert together, the second of two

It was so late and I so tired that I forgot it

I had panicked at first and messaged you but soon realized it would all be okay

You'd come by my house and drop it off and I was happy because I'd get to see you again

One small moment of one otherwise insignificant day

But still my face lit up when you pulled into the driveway

The exchange was quick, you back on your way in no time at all; me, waiting, watching you go

I left my water bottle in your car and thought nothing of it;

let you drive away with nothing but a simple goodbye

Not knowing, as I do now, that it was the last time I'd ever see you again
