Meditations on Love by Zoë Greene

Zoë Greene

maybe love is when my friend kept pushing down my popsocket and of course i would pull it back up

but it later occurred to me that not once did i move my phone

or maybe the unspoken act of leaning my head on someone's shoulder and them patting the top of it, a small gesture that made me feel better nonetheless

or perhaps love is texting someone on their birthday, no matter how long it's been or how distant you are, something so small, yet so big and that says, i haven't forgotten about you

maybe love is listening to someone for hours on end talk about something that maybe you know nothing about

but the way their eyes light up, you could listen to them forever, not caring at all if you understand or not

or maybe it's the mutual agreement that eye contact isn't a big deal; that we're listening even if we're not looking and that we understand and don't need to talk about it

love is walking on the street side of the sidewalk, handing them a napkin when they have something on their face

love is gentle touches, quiet understanding, things you do that just go without saying

love is ingrained in even the smallest of actions

sometimes it is obvious and sometimes it is not

nevertheless, it is there

and even the smallest acts of love stay with you for a long, long time

even the smallest acts of love remain
