SUPER-WIFE by John Grey

Who but Louise

could show up

at the 24/7 grocery store

at six in the morning,

in neat blouse

and smart-looking slacks,

clutching a purse

overflowing with coupons,

and, with determined face,

lightning grabs,

speed-demon self-checkout

be in and out

of that place

before her husband, the kids,

are awake

and, most of all,

before her first coffee.

All the time,

her blood knows

someone is out there

but it needs a java jolt,

something more to go on

before it can answer,

“No one.”
